6th Grade Math Supplies

Please help your child to be prepared for class each day by having a well stocked backpack!  Students will need a spiral notebook, pencils, their Student Companion, and a white board marker EVERYDAY.  Occasionally students will need crayons (or colored pencils), Post-it Notes, a calculator, and ruler.  I will remind students when they need the occasional things or they can borrow mine.

Thank you!

Whiteboard Markers are a MUST!

Check out this website as it explains my general philosophy on what a math education should be like!  As a student in one of my math classes, your child will be learning his/her math standards, concepts, and skills through many of the math tasks and activities presented here and in conjunction with the district approved curriculum.

FREE ONLINE CLASS

https://www.youcubed.org/online-student-course/

How to Learn Math is a free class for learners of all levels of mathematics. There are 6 sessions, the first three are approximately 10 minutes long and the last three approximately 20 mins long. It combines really important information on the brain and learning with new evidence on the best ways to approach and learn math effectively. Many people have had negative experiences with math, and end up disliking math or failing. This class will give learners of math the information they need to become powerful math learners, it will correct any misconceptions they have about what math is, and it will teach them about their own potential to succeed and the strategies needed to approach math effectively. If you have had past negative experiences with math this will help change your relationship to one that is positive and powerful.

Better your Grade with a Retake!

Complete an Analysis of your Assessment!

Immediately review your test on Digits and analyze your work.  You are looking for what kind of mistakes you made so you can learn from them.  Are they conceptual errors?  If you truly don't understand the math idea, please come see me for CUB.  Are they simple errors and you need to get better at showing your work and working more carefully?  That's good to know and easy to fix.

Do you Qualify for a Retake?

You must have completed your homework with an average of 75% or higher (Math 6 Classes) or 80% or higher (Advanced Math Classes) to qualify.  Students who do not complete the work prior to the test are not eligible to do retakes.

Request a Retake Practice Test

As soon as you know you want to do a retake, request a practice test from your teacher.  Once you earn a 100% on a practice test, you will be allowed to retake the test.  You may request as many practice tests as you need and you may get help during CUB or in the after school Math Help Club.

Know the Retake Deadline

Retakes must be completed by the deadline listed on your teacher's website or as stated in class.  Retakes should be completed within about a week of the original test date.

Retaking the Test

The actual retake test must be completed at school.  You can request it to be taken before or after school, or in CUB.  Just be sure to do it by the due date.  See my website for the date.

Retake Policy and Scores

Students who achieve an 80% or higher on a test do not qualify for retakes.  Students who qualify and complete retakes are only allowed to earn an 80% in the grade book for retakes.
